Cathedral Rock at Sunset

When you walk up from the Baldwin Trail parking area towards Oak Creeks, the red rocks of Cathedral Rock loom not far off. The rocks are amazing at any time of day, but in the hour right before sunset, a dramatic, red-orange glow envelopes everything that extends up into the light. My intention with this painting was to try and capture those fleeting moments.

This painting was done from on-location sketches done in Sedona, Arizona.

This original work was painted with oil paint on an Ampersand Clayboard panel.
