A Lab Named Albert

Today I painted a portrait of my yellow lab, Albert. I have always found his face to be so wonderfully expressive! The inspiration photo for this painting shows Albert keeping an eye on everything that is happening at the dinner table. They say that labs are food motivated, but Albert takes that to a whole new level!

Description

I’ve been loving working with water-mixable oil paint on Ampersand Claybord panels. There is something about having a slightly absorbent surface that I just love! I start with a sketch directly on the panel using a pencil. I can then oil out the panel prior to painting to slow the absorption rate. This allows me to customize the surface and get the perfect balance of absorbency and workability in my paint.
